Title: The Tigon and the Liger
Author: Keilly Swift
Illustrator: Cosei Kawa

The Story:
Tyler is unique, neither a tiger like his dad nor a lion like his mum. Tyler is a Tigon and unsure of his place in the world, he never seems to fit in. But then he meets Lyla who is just as unique, neither a lion like her dad nor a tiger like her mum. Lyla is a Liger. Tyler and Lyla celebrate their differences and that’s when something truly magical happens.

Cosei’s brilliant illustrations bring this story to life and help us visualise what a tigon and liger look like.

Favourite Spread:
Cosei’s illustrations bring another level of emotional depth to the story. I absolutely love this spread from the shadows of the trees and the stark black and white to the placement of the text, it is pure perfection that allows us to know exactly how Tyler is feeling.

The Verdict:
A clever, moving and uplifting story that celebrates diversity and being mixed race. This fabulous rhyming story encourages children to love the skin they’re in and is a book you want to read over and over again.
