The Story:
A little fox is about to tell you all about how funny time can be. Little Fox knows infinitely more about time than Dad. For instance, Little Fox knows exactly when to wake Dad up and just how much can be done in five minutes. Dad doesn’t realise “Dad time” isn’t supposed to be peaceful and relaxing. But there is one type of time that Dad knows far more about…

Favourite Spread:
Marta has made full use of the fact this story is told in first person from the point of view of Little Fox; the page turns are excellent and will make both children and adult readers laugh.

Each spread is jam-packed with tiny details that make this feel like modern day living. I loved this spread where Dad is marking them growing on the wall, showing how time can feel like it’s going to fast in contrast to the little foxes who feel time is going too slowly because they’re hungry.

The Verdict:
I absolutely loved this book, especially the ending. Marta has captured modern day family life in a way that will resonate with both children and adult readers. As a child, my mum and I would often read Five Minutes’ Peace by Jill Murphy and this book reminded me of it, but modernised for a 21st century family. The illustrations are lovely and ending is just perfect. A brilliant book to read when you have five minutes (and even when you don’t!).
