Title: There’s a Bear on My Chair
Author: Ross Collins
Illustrator: Ross Collins
The Story:
Mouse is distraught that there is a bear on his chair. He is at a loss for how to get the bear to move so in the end he decides to go somewhere else. Somewhere that bear is not too happy about!
Favourite Spread:
In this story Ross has perfectly “illustrated” the marriage between the text and drawings in picture books. Some spreads have a fair few words, though the humour is still found in the illustrations. Other times, and indeed in my favourite spread, Ross’ illustrations are all that is needed to move the story along.
The Verdict:
A clever, funny, rhythmic picture book where the illustrations tell the story as much as the words. I enjoyed reading this but I have to admit I preferred Ross Collins reading it to me! You can watch him read the book to you on YouTube for the Scottish Book Trust.

Great review Rachael. Thank you for the link to hear Ross Collins reading it too. Loved the rhythmic flow and very cute ending. I’ll be adding There’s A Bear On My Chair to my must have list!
