Title: My Hair
Author: Hannah Lee
Illustrator: Allen Fatimaharan
The Blurb:
My birthday’s coming up so soon,
I’ll need new clothes to wear.
But most of all, I need to know,
How shall I style my hair?
Will it be dreads or a twist out? Braids or a high-top fade? Joyous and vibrant, this captures perfectly the excitement of getting ready for a celebration, as well as showcasing a dazzling array of intricate hairstyles.
Favourite Spread:
I loved every single illustration in this book, including the fabulous end pages.
I thought leaving a space for the reader to draw their own hairstyle at the end of the book was a lovely touch.
Together, Hannah and Allen have crafted not only a fun, lively story but also a really accurate and clever description of the many wonderful hairstyles out there.
I also adored the ending and final illustration, but I will leave you to go and buy the book to see it for yourself!
The Verdict:
This book is a real celebration of the beauty of hair and how we should all feel a sense of pride with how we choose to wear our hair. Growing up I really struggled to know what to do with my curls and always found myself wishing it was easier to manage. I wish I’d had this book when I was a child and I’m so glad I can read it with my daughter today.
