Title: Meerkat Christmas
Author: Emily Gravett
Illustrator: Emily Gravett
The Story:
Sunny the meerkat has got his Christmas check list at the ready:
- Snow
- Decorated tree
- Presents
- Singing carols
- Dinner with all the trimmings (except sprouts)
Christmas at home in the Kalahari desert is just not up to the mark, so Sunny travels the globe in search of the perfect Christmas. He writes back to his family with updates at every location he tries, but nowhere seems quite right. Can Sunny work out where the perfect Christmas is before it’s too late?
Favourite Spread:
Emily has created such rich and contrasting Christmas scenes in this book.
It’s such great fun to be able to open up the cards Sunny sends home to his family, each filled with laugh-out-loud humour.
Having spent most Christmases in the UK, but one in Australia with my aunt, this had to be my favourite spread – it’s right on the money!
The Verdict:
With The Jolly Postman being one of my all-time favourite books and being a huge fan of Christmas, Meerkat Christmas was always going to be a winner for me. What I loved about this book, was that it explored all the different ways to celebrate Christmas around the globe but ultimately gave you that warm, Christmassy glow with its beautiful message, that no matter where you are, and how you celebrate the day, it’s being with the people you love that makes it so special.
