If like me, you find yourself at home with children, looking for creative ways to entertain them, these games might be just what you need!

Laurence King Publishing have a range of fun educational games. For toddlers, I would highly recommend their range of First Story Puzzles. For older children, they have a great game on the Ancient Egyptians which can be played in multiple ways, tailoring the balance of learning and game difficulty to suit the family.

Series: My First Story Puzzle
Illustrator:
Kanae Sato

An egg becomes a chick, and then a hen. A caterpillar forms into a chrysalis and then emerges as a beautiful butterfly! A seed sprouts, and then becomes a flower. It’s raining, the sun comes out, and then a beautiful rainbow appears! Young children will delight in Kanae Sato’s delicate images while learning simple stories and logical sequences with these three-piece jigsaws.

Contained, in a lovely sturdy box, are 5 three-piece jigsaws which feature an animal journey or a cycle in nature. This is a perfect game to share with toddlers. They will enjoy solving the bright, colour-coordinated puzzles and working out the pattern.

My two-year-old loves that this is a simple puzzle she can do on her own, but we can also stretch her learning by asking her questions about the sequences.

Match a Mummy: The Ancient Egypt Memory Game
Author:
Anna Claybourne
Illustrator:
Léa Maupetit
Travel back in time to Ancient Egypt with this new children’s matching game, developed in partnership with the British Museum. Locate and match up the pairs to learn more about how the Egyptians lived. Why did they shave their heads but wear wigs, use dark eye make-up and worship dung beetles? How did they invent toothpaste and which internal organs did they keep before mummification? Includes 20 matching pairs on 40 cards, and a booklet with explanatory text. This game will appeal to children from age 7 and up.

Unlike many matching games, the image on the matched-pair are different. What links the two images, is their connection to Ancient Egypt and the fact-packed booklet that comes with the cards explains why.

Once children are familiar with which cards are paired together, this deck of cards could also be used for a game of snap as well as match. There are some very iconic aspects of Ancient Egypt included, such as their hieroglyphs and tombs, but there are also very unusual symbols that children will enjoy discovering.

I am very grateful to the publisher for providing me with complimentary copies of these games. This voluntary review contains my honest opinion.

      1. Sounds great, so good to be able to get into the garden isn’t it?! We’ve got a couple of two piece puzzles and Peapod is just starting to get the idea so I’m looking at these for a few months down the line, might get them for his birthday.
