I’m delighted to be featuring author-illustrator, Bethan Stevens’ debut picture book, The Grumpy Fairies.

Fairies have created a great name for themselves in the magical world. Godmothers, tooth collectors, all very helpful, nice and sweet. But did you know that some young fairies can be incredibly… grumpy! And not just a bit grumpy, foot-stomping, frowny, bottom-lip-sticking-outy kind of grumpy. In case you’ve never seen one, here’s a peek:

But grumpy fairies had better watch out because “grumpy fairy” happens to be a goblin’s favourite snack! I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed reading this book with my daughters. I was laughing all the way through and Little E found it just as funny. I think if this book had been around when I was a little girl my mum would have read it to me every day. Anyone that knows me could tell you, I was a very grumpy child (and still can be!) and this book is perfect to share with little ones going through a grumpy patch.

The emotions and expressions Bethan has created in her illustrations are just outstanding. So full of real-life grumpiness! The story is told with such great humour it will entertain the entire family, young, old, helpful or grumpy or helpful-in-training!

This wonderful, funny debut will bring a smile to the smallest (and grumpiest) of children.
