During challenging times, it is more important than ever to celebrate the wonders of life. A Year Full of Celebrations and Festivals is beautifully illustrated by Christopher Corr and written and edited by Claire Grace.

This book is a real celebration of festivals around the world. Christopher’s illustrations are bursting with colour and capture the joyful atmosphere of festivals. The book is divided into the four seasons, beginning with Spring and includes a vast range of festivals. From national holidays, cultural and religious festivals, such as Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah and Chinese New Year. To festivals that mark a historic event, such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the PRIDE parades. Plus there are also some festivals that are just full-on fun!

Each festival has its own page with some information about its origin and significance, as well as anything special that people do during the festivities. Unsurprisingly, my daughter loved Halloween. But it was also brilliant to discover new festivals with her, that we had perhaps not come across before.

So far, we have focussed on reading about the winter celebrations and our plan is to refer back to this book throughout the different seasons this year. We are really looking forward to Earth Day in Spring.

A Year Full of Celebrations and Festivals is a book to cherish all year round, year after year. Reading this with my family, we have all learnt so much, and felt a connection to some festivals that we might not have known about or celebrated. Christopher and the Quarto team have created a vibrant and inclusive kaleidoscope of festivals that will get you in the festive mood!
