What About Me? Said the Flea by Lily Murray & Richard Merritt ~ #PictureBook #Review ~ @lilymurraybooks @Richarddraws @BusterBooks

Picture books today are full of exciting characters, from divine lions (cue the amazing: If You See a Lion) to mighty dinosaurs (a favourite of ours being: She Rex). But have you ever read a picture book starring a flea? No. Nor me. And one particular flea thinks there is a flea-shaped gap in the market…

What About Me? Said the Flea by Lily Murray & Richard Merritt

What About Me? Said the Flea by Lily Murray & Richard Merritt is a bright, rhyming picture book that almost ends in disaster with a capital SPLAT!

When a little girl decides to write a story, she ponders and puzzles over whom to write about. Then she hears a loud voice, lots of loud voices in fact, coming from would-be picture book characters, all vying for the lead role in her story. From big, burly bears to loveable llamas in pyjamas.

As the colourful cast all try to out do one another, a small voice attempts to speak up. A little flea asks, “can’t it be my turn?”
Will the young girl hear the fleas pleas?

My daughter loved Richard’s striking illustrations, which add to the humour of this book. She was rooting for the little flea and wanted more. We both hope that there will be a sequel where we can find out what flea’s story would be! What About Me? Said the Flea is a vibrant picture book, full of humour, and a reminder that everyone matters and everyone deserves their story to be told.
