Today, I am showcasing a book that hooked me from the title: The Dodos Did It! by Alice McKinley.

The Dodos Did It! is packed full of dodos. Some of which even have names. It all began when Jack – who doesn’t just like dodos, he LOVES them – wishes for a pet dodo.

Well, actually, he wishes for lots of pet dodos. And the wishes come true! Soon, Jack has more dodo’s than he could ever have imagined.

It turns out that dodos are not the easiest pets to control. In fact, they can make quite a mess. Jack’s parents are NOT impressed. They also don’t believe Jack when he says it was his pet dodo’s because, let’s face it, they’re extinct!
But what Jack’s parents don’t know yet, is that there are much worse things for your child to have as a pet than a few hundred dodos. I mean, at least they don’t roar… right?

Alice’s illustrations are fabulous, and she has hidden so many dodo’s throughout that even though we tried to count how many there were, we keep reaching a different number each time we read the book! This laugh-out-loud picture book featuring a diverse family and more dodos than you can count, is fast becoming a family favourite.
