I am excited to be sharing a new picture book by Julia Donaldson and Yuval Zommer that really captivated my daughter’s attention. The Woolly Bear Caterpillar is a cross between The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Ugly Duckling with a fabulous non-fiction bonus!

When a plain-looking Woolly Bear Caterpillar meets other species of caterpillars in the garden, they laugh at her. They boast about how amazing they are and what awesome moths they will be one day. The little Woolly Bear Caterpillar wonders what kind of moth she will become. The other caterpillars laugh at her, they think she will be a dull moth.
The moths to build their cocoons and when it’s time to come out there is a surprise in store. The once colourful caterpillars have turned it plain, dull moths. But what about the little Woolly Bear Caterpillar? Is she about to undergo a surprising transformation?

The Woolly Bear Caterpillar feels like it will become became a modern day classic. The message of this book is classic and reminded me of The Ugly Duckling, told through caterpillars and moths giving it a Very Hungry Caterpillar feel. But it also has a unique and fresh twist…

Just when we thought the book can’t get any better, we discovered a mini bonus non-fiction book tucked into the back cover. This gorgeous little pocket guide to caterpillars tells you all the facts about the species featured in the book. My daughter actually squealed with excitement!
The Woolly Bear Caterpillar is one of favourite books written by Julia Donaldson and has the perfect mix of classic fairy tale and non-fiction. We LOVE it!
