Zog by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler ~ #PictureBook #Review ~ @scholasticuk

Title: Zog
Author: Julia Donaldson
Illustrator: Axel Scheffler

Zog

The Story:
Zog is the keenest dragon at school and tries his hardest to win a golden star. But he always seems to come up short. Thankfully a girl named Pearl is never too far away and helps him when he stumbles. In year four the dragons must capture a princess. Zog is determined to get that golden star, but will Pearl be able to help him this time? And will Pearl turn out to be the type of princess everyone excepts?

Favourite Spread:
When the dragons learn to roar, Zog gets off to a “snowy” start, and then when he finally masters it, his wing tip catches on fire! This spread shows the brilliance of Julia’s rhymes as well as Axel’s wonderful illustrations which bring the story to life.

Zog

The Verdict:
Zog is so endearing in his efforts to win a golden star and while at first Pearl seems to be there just to help Zog, Julia produces a wonderful twist that elevates this story. This is a story about trying your best, having the courage to stand out from the crowd and follow your dreams.
