Mr Darcy by Alex Field & Peter Carnavas ~ #PictureBook #Review ~ @NFPublishingUK

Title: Mr Darcy
Author:
Alex Field
Illustrator:
Peter Carnavas

Mr Darcy

The Story:
A little duck named Mr Darcy is far too self-important to accept an invitation to tea from Lizzy. But when he gets stuck in a puddle and makes a fool of himself will he finally learn the value of friendship?

Favourite Spread:
This is first and foremost a picture book about friendship and not Jane Austen’s story of Pride and Prejudice. However Alex has used just enough hints and traits from the classic to make it a lovely recognisable tale for the adults reading. The dialogue in this first spread reminds you of Austen, but the second spread could be from any time period. It’s a great marriage that Peter has woven together through lovely simple illustrations.

The Verdict:
As a huge fan of Jane Austen, there was no way I wasn’t going to like this book. Alex and Peter have done a great job of blending the characters and settings of Pride and Prejudice into this sweet children’s story about a duck learning to make friends.
