Title: The Go-Away Bird
Author: Julia Donaldson
Illustrator: Catherine Rayner
The Story:
When three colourful birds come to visit the Go-Away bird, you can guess what she says. But when the Get-You bird comes by, the Go-Away bird is in trouble. Can the Come-Back bird help her out?
Favourite Spread:
Catherine’s illustrations are absolutely stunning. The colours and textures bring such a warmth and richest to every spread. The individual characteristics of each bird are so relatable. I loved the Flip-Flap bird.
My favourite spreads are with the Get You bird. I found Catherine’s illustrations truly mesmerising!
The Verdict:
I adore this book, partly because I personally can relate to the Go Away bird(!). Catherine’s illustrations make Julia’s catchy rhyming story sing on the page. I love this book’s beautiful message about friendship, forgiveness and not taking others for granted. The clever repetition and anticipated behaviours throughout will have children wanting to read this book over and over again.
And how cool that there are real Go-Away birds out there in the wild!
