Children’s activity books have been in high demand during lockdown with parents and guardians looking for creative ways to entertain children at home. Today, I am sharing my two favourite creative craft books that I’ve discovered during the pandemic.

Let’s Make Some Great Art: Animals and Patterns by bestselling illustrator Marion Deuchars, seamlessly incorporate geometry, art history and imagination into these fun and original books. My daughters and I are huge fans of Marion’s picture books, such as the series: Bob the Artist (read my review here).

Marion’s illustration style uses basic shapes and bold lines to give expression. These two creative books give children the skills to create their own artwork in Marion’s recognisable style.

In Patterns, my daughter and I had great fun using triangles. Marion provides a huge range of fun and original activities to try. Starting with patterns to creating characters.

I particularly loved this page about the traditional art of the Warli tribe from India.

My daughter absolutely loves Animals – hand painting is a favourite activity and being able to transform your hand into a range of animals was exciting for both of us!

Marion’s illustrations often include fingerprints and the book is filled with activities for creating your own simple creatures for more complex creatures like dinosaurs!

There is something for everyone in these beautiful creative activity books. You can paint into them directly, but we did the activities on paper to keep these as keepsake craft guides that we can enjoy over and over again.
