Every year, I look forward to getting out my Father Christmas set of Russian dolls. I have loved Russian dolls ever since I was a child and now my daughters love them too. So, you can imagine our delight when we discovered, What’s in the Truck? by Philip Ardagh and Jason Chapman.

A dog-prince sets off in his truck to deliver a very important birthday present to the princess. But this is no ordinary truck. It contains vehicles, inside vehicles, inside vehicles –  Russian doll style!

The jolly rhymes are jam-packed with jazzy words that children will love. Jason’s illustrations are so much fun. Each vehicle appears in a new fabulous style, and your anticipation to discover the next vehicle grows on every page. We loved the limo’s lift up flap!

This Russian-doll-style truck adventure picture book is a pure delight. I absolutely loved the ending and seeing the princess’ excitement at her birthday present. You’ll have to read the book to find out what it is!
