Today, I am showcasing an ingenious book that invites you to step back in history by stepping into traditional homes from different eras. Starting with the grand manor houses of the 13th century right up to a modern day eco-friendly house you might expect to see on Grand Designs. Step Inside Homes Through History by Goldie Hawk and Sarah Gibb is an absolute must-read!

Even the hardback cover gives you a clue to the delight that awaits you inside this book. The door to the classic Georgian house is cut out so you can peep through.

This theme continues with every period. The glass of the windows in each home has been laser-cut-out so that you can peep through to the next page which shows you the interior of the home, almost like a dolls house.
Each room is set-out how it would have been at the time alongside interest facts. The following page gives you even more details about the period fashions, furniture and the family life style. These facts have been written in consultation with experts from the National Trust and Sarah’s gorgeous illustrations add so much character and depth to the period features.
There are seven eras in total: The Late Middle Ages, Tudor, Georgian, Victorian, 1920s, 1960s and present day. I adore this book, but importantly so does my daughter. I could see the excitement on her face every time we peeked through the windows. Her favourite home was the 1920s house with its grand front door and arched windows.

This is one of those books that can make readers who weren’t even interested in history love history! This beautifully illustrated book is one of a kind and incredibly memorable. I can’t recommend it highly enough!
