Spring is here and this book is bringing the sunshine. Busy Spring: Nature Wakes Up is written by Sean Taylor and Alex Morss and illustrated by Cinyee Chiu.

This gorgeous guide to Spring is bubbling with energy and excitement for the new life nature brings in Spring. I love the poem included, which describes Spring sunshine as nature’s alarm clock, telling the wildlife to wake up.

We read this book outside, if felt right as it’s all about nature, and we looked around the garden for the signs of Spring we could see. We didn’t see any tadpoles(!) but we did see a bee. A big bee, hurrying past, just as the book described! My daughter was so excited.
We enjoyed reading about the different creatures’ lifecycles and looking at Cinyee’s beautifully illustrations of the butterflies.

I loved the page on plants. Sean, Alex and Cinyee have created a wonderful balance between storytelling, facts and art work. It is a book you will want to re-read every Spring and children will take something new away each year.

There really is something for everyone in this book and it would make a fabulous gift for nature lovers young and old. In fact, the entire series would! Winter Sleep came out in 2019 and we’ll be keeping an eye out for a Summer and Autumn edition in the future!
